The Times They Are A Changin’

As the Bob Dylan famously recorded back in the early 1960’s, “The Times They Are A Changin’,” and that song has been on replay in my mind over the last several weeks. Personally, the month of August has been an incredible roller coaster of emotions, with several highs, a few lows, and a LOT of nervous moments in between. Let me explain…

The past several weeks have been incredibly busy and quite challenging for me, personally. I’ve been planning and executing a vSphere 6.7 upgrade at work, finalized plans for and hosted the August Pittsburgh VMUG meeting, and I had been finalizing my presentation and other conference activities for VMworld 2019 US. During the first two weekends in August, my wife and I spent the majority of our time refinishing the staircase in our house, as that was planned before all of the other activities hit.

In between all of those various activities were a series of interviews with a number of people at various levels for a Technical Account Manager role with VMware, based right here in Pittsburgh.

As I’ve already discussed with my colleagues within HM Health Solutions, this wasn’t because I was unhappy with my current role, the people I work with, or the current culture at work. It was simply an opportunity that presented itself, and I had to at least give it a try. As the saying goes, if you don’t ask (or try), the answer is automatically ‘no.’

And now that I’ve given my management team the proper notice, I can officially announce that I have officially accepted the VMware Technical Account Manager role! I am so incredibly excited for this new opportunity and look forward to the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead!! My official start date with VMware will be on Monday, September 30th.

I definitely owe a HUGE “THANK YOU” to my family for their patience, understanding, and support, as well as the kind folks within the #vCommunity who also helped along the way in applying for this role. Many hours were spent researching and gaining a better understanding of what the TAM role entails. Without everyone’s words of encouragement, advice, guidance, and support, I probably wouldn’t be publishing this very blog post. It’s truly a support system like no other, and I can’t thank you all enough!

I’d also like to thank everyone at HMHS for giving me the opportunity to join their team back in July 2016. There certainly have been many opportunities to learn and contribute, and I will definitely take many positive memories with me to my new role at VMware.

  1. Congratulations, Doug! I knew a lot about the opportunity, and I’m thrilled that it went to someone so knowledgeable, passionate, and driven. I think you will be a great resource to VMware and to the customers with whom you will interface. Great job!
